Government Borrowing Down In February

Public sector net borrowing in February 2013 was £9bn lower than in February 2012 at £2.8bn (PSNBex excluding the temporary effects of financial interventions). The current budget deficit was also lower by £7.1bn at -£1.1bn. Net investment was £1.7%. Net debt (PSND) was £1,161.5bn at the end of February equivalent to 73.5% of GDP.

Net borrowing was £2.8bn, the sectoral breakdown shows genral government borrowing at £3bn with central government on £4.1bn and local government with -£1.1bn and non-financial public corporations on -£0.2bn. Public sector banking groups borrowed £1.6bn giving public sector net borrowing total of £4.4bn.
