Farm Rent Increases Across The Board In 2010

Rent prices for full agricultural tenancies rose across all regions in 2010. The average rent under full agricultural tenency agreements increased from £139/ha to £152/ha. Overall rents are increasing due to increases in commodity prices. The largest proportional increases were in cattle and sheep farms in Less Favoured Areas (LFAs) from £52 in 2009 to £62 in 2010 (21%). Dairy farm average rents increased by 16% between 2009 and 2010 to £180/ha.

Farm business tenancies remained unchanged overall on 2009 prices at £162/ha. The largest increases were in general cropping farms with increases of 11% to £249/ha in 2010. The increases have been due mainly to the profitability of arable farming.

The average rent for seasonal agreements increased from £99/ha in 2009 to £124/ha in 2010, an increase of 25%.
