The consumer prices index (CPI) grew by 0.2% to 1.8% over the year to April 2014 according to a statistical bulletin from the ONS. The CPI was 1.6% in March. The increase was mainly due to increases in airfares, sea fares and motor fuels probably as a result of the Easter holidays. These travelling costs were the main contributor to the overall increase in the CPI.
