Food Inflation Continues To Fall

The British Retail Consortium Shop Price Index for May shows a fall from 1.4% in April to 1.3% year-on-year. The monthly figures increased 0.5% after a fall of 0.5% last month. The Director General said it is the lowest fall in food inflation this year so far. It has been falling since March. Recent depreciation of the pound and low commodity prices may have had some effect. Summer promotions may help keep prices low.
