Unemployment in Europe At 10.3%

Unemployment in Europe increased to 10.3% in April compared with 10.2% in March. It was 9.5% in April last year. In the euro area the unemployment rate remained stable at 11%. Eurostat estimates suggest that when the percentages are translated back into numbers there were 24,667m men and women in the EU27 unemployed in April 2012 of whom 17,405m were in the euro area. The numbers increased by 110,000 in the euro area and by 102,000 in the EU27 compared with March. Compared wit April 2011 unemployment rose by 1,932m in the EU27 and by 1,797m in the euro area.
