Do This, Not That

Living an ethical life demands more and more from modern business and marketing. Ethical instruction sometimes means no more than moderation. The capable teaching of virtue in general may give us models to imitate and a sense of the vocation or state to which each of us may be called. Misunderstanding and preunderstanding give it no logical force and prescind any power in it. The gifts we have already had given us are gifts of power which can achieve so much more when applied conscientiously, precisely, at the right time, in the right place. From a good conscience proceed good actions, the more it prevails, the more objective standards of moral conduct take over from blind choice. Re-reading the teachings and constantly going back to the data keep a focus and help things develop. Hermeneutics rediscovers a more global understanding, exploring symbolic language and looking at the world from new angles, metaphor and symbol, night and day.
